In my work, I explore memory, family, and lineage. My studio practice utilizes various materials and processes, including photography, cyanotype, painting, and installations. Having experienced a broken family at a young age, I find myself drawn to the concept of a stable family, particularly the role of a strong matriarch. In creating my installations, I give the viewer an opportunity to experience the evocation of past memories. The familiar objects, smells, and sounds can evoke fundamental memories and emotions from forgotten times in life.
While investigating my family history, I consider the element of time. I frequently collect sentimental objects that carry scars and fragments of the past, such as family photos, antiques from my grandmother, and voice recordings. Many of my works exhibit layers and pieces, a way of rectifying a broken home and slivered memories. Living in this digital age, I often observe a disconnection and lack of authenticity in many areas of daily existence. By contrast, I appreciate the tactile qualities of real life. My materials, process, and research encompass ways of emphasizing the importance of connections, empathy, and intimacy.
